Third Grade

The Third Grade team seeks to establish a caring community of lifelong learners striving for excellence. We dedicate ourselves to a nurturing environment where young people are excited about learning.

Third Grade Curriculum

Third graders are taught the Sunshine State Standards in all subject areas: reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies.

Reading/Language Arts:

Use comprehension reading strategies to make connections from text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world.

Use Imagine It reading series to teach how to decode words and comprehend text.

Use Write from the Beginning to teach paragraph writing, drafting, revising, and publishing.

Math:

Use adding and subtracting whole numbers, linear measures and area, multiplication and division, place value in whole numbers and decimals, geometry, fractions, measurement and data, and probability to solve real world problems.

Science:

Study life science, earth science, physical science, and space and technology. Expose children to meaningful and valuable science experiments.

Social Studies:

Study the subject of communities and government

Study ancient civilizations including China, Egypt, Greece, and Rome

Locate places and events using maps, globes, and timelines

Field Trips:

Each year our students are taken on two educational field trips related to the curriculum. The students are also taken to the places listed below for music and art.
